For Immediate Release: April 14, 2009 The State Senate approved HB 1704, forming a centralized state information technology office, bringing efficiency and cost savings to Oklahoma government. Mirroring SB 980 previously passed by the Senate and authored by President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee, this legislation will move Oklahoma toward a more efficient and effective government. HB 1704 provides for a state Office of Information Services (OIS), overseeing and consolidating state information technology services under one roof. “We’re moving Oklahoma into the 21st century technologically with this legislation,” said Coffee. “This new office will greatly enhance the efficiency of state government.” “The OIS will centralize the state’s information systems, information technology and all financial and management information services,” Coffee said. “Significant savings from the elimination of redundancies and the economies of scale will be realized by the creation of this office. “For too long, state government has had multiple techno-kingdoms that cost us in real dollars and lost productivity,” Coffee added. “The CIO will provide a major step toward moving our state forward.” “I look forward to the governor signing this bill and realizing better service and greater savings to the taxpayers of Oklahoma,” Coffee concluded.
