Governor’s Desk Next Stop for Oklahoma Firearms
Freedom Act
State Sen. Randy
Brogdon said he is extremely pleased that a measure to strengthen
Oklahomans’ Second Amendment Rights will soon be on the governor’s
desk. Senate Bill 1685, the “Oklahoma Firearms Freedom Act,”
authored by Brogdon, R-Owasso, and Rep. Charles Key, R-Oklahoma City,
was approved by the House on Tuesday.
“As I talk to citizens in my district and throughout the state,
they’ve shared their concerns that the powers that be in Washington
are increasingly eroding their Constitutional rights,” Brogdon said.
“In particular, Oklahomans are worried about assaults on their Second
Amendment rights. Senate Bill 1685 is designed to further guarantee that
freedom is not taken from our citizens.”
Under the provisions of Senate Bill 1685, no firearms or ammunition manufactured
in Oklahoma and remaining in the state could be subject to any federal
regulations, including federal registration requirements.
“Not only will this bill further strengthen the constitutional rights
of Oklahomans to keep and bear arms, but we believe the provisions contained
in this bill will also help attract gun manufacturers to our state, creating
jobs and boosting our economy,” Brogdon said. “I hope the
Governor will recognize that this bill represents an important tool in
protecting the rights guaranteed to our citizens by the Founding Fathers
by signing SB 1685 into law.”
